Is that the solid state amp that uses a single 12AX7 at low plate
voltages (a la B.K. Butler)? The one with the yellow lettering? I
think they use MOSFETs.
It's been a LONG time since I played one in a shop setting, and while I
wasn't thrilled, I didn't give it much of a go. I had an issue with the
cosmetics, as well. Purely my personal opinion. I recall some even had
the yellow with the gray oxite/carpet.
I do own a Chandler Tube Driver, in rack form (includes the bias
control, the mod that Eric Johnson and others would have done on their
stomp box version -- pedal versions didn't offer this "over the counter"
until his reissues came out). All I can say about that unit is that I
found that it *can* give a good blusey, lower gain classic rock sort of
distortion, *after* I found a tube that sounded good in it and after
some dialing in.
Whether that amp borrows much from my circuit, I don't know.
The Tube Works amps don't seem to demand much in the way of resale
value, so be careful about fairness of any trade.

Thanks. As far as your questions...I do not know at this point. I'm
assuming it is the pre amp tube model with ss power..but I'm not sure.
Most likely I won't trade for this, but I was just curious. The ones
I've seen online are pretty fugly actually! Thanks.

A tube in the preamp doesn't make a tube preamp. It makes a solid state
preamp with a tube in it.

I have an RT-2100, 1 12 combo ... older than the one you're looking at, I
think. It has the BK Butler preamp circuit and a mosfet power amp. I used
it for years in a very low volume setting ... mostly as a monitor ... with
it's direct output feeding an old MXR 10 band EQ going straight to the PA.
It could get pretty loud if needed, and it was pretty versatile. But a tube
amp it's not. It was described as a Blue Tube style preamp with a
transistor power amp with two separate channels, voiced for one cleaner than
the other. The clean was pretty good, and the reverb was Fender-good.
Don't know how much this applies to yours. I still have mine since I don't
think it's worth selling, and someday I might need a spare.

To me, it's like the expression;
"Nothing tastes as good as thin/fit feels".
It tends to + ly re-focus the mind toward the long term wisdom of
applied discipline vs. the foolishness of short term impulsivity...

Anyways...I had a good C.A.S. session today. I was waiting for a kid
to come over to look at an amp I was selling, he was an hour late...so
I just played the amp non stop for that hour. Of course by the time he
came I regretted selling it...the thing started sounding better than I
remembered.
