1/4 Mono Input jack replacement - PH - 6-:17 -0-09-20

Hi

Have you tried to replace the 1/4 Mono Input jack ?

http://www.gretschparts.com/pictures/916b/Jack-1-4-Inch-Female-Mono.jpg
The musicstore did only have the a grounding-type
The guitar has the mono-type

There is 2 wires from the cable but only 1 wire from the guitar.

Do you know where to connect this ?

Hi

I'm assuming your replacing the input jack of your guitar and the
cable you refer to is your guitar lead.

The hot signal lead from your guitar wiring should be connected to the
socket terminal which makes contact with the end of the jack plug.
That looks like the lowest of the three solder tabs on the grounding-
type socket (looking at the socket the same way up as your attached
jpg). You also need to connect an earth from your guitar wiring to the
upper solder tab which makes contact with the shaft of the jack plug
on your guitar lead. You don't need to use the centre solder tab.

If wired correctly, the hot signal will flow down the centre wire of
your guitar lead while, the earth is connected to the outer shielding.

Hope the above helps, Green

Unfortunately your question isn't very clear.

Technically, a guitar has an *output* jack, because signal goes *out* of the
guitar. The part is the same, it's just the direction of the signal.

The ground, or braid, goes to the lug that connects to the barrel of the
guitar cable plug; insert your guitar cable into the jack to see which one
that is. Trace the tip of the plug to see which lug the hot lead from the
controls or pickup switch attach to. If you have the "grounding" version
of the jack, you can just ignore the extra lug.

I've replaced a hundred or so.

You mean stereo?

99% have mono type.

Let's see: 2 wires from the cable but one from the guitar.

Is the one from the guitar a grounding wire? Maybe. it would go to the
ground lug on the 1/4 jack.

I replaced all my 1/4" jacks with HQ stereo jacks, they hold the cord
in stronger and tend to last much longer.

Thank you both

It was very helpful aswers.
After a closer look there was ground + hot lead from the guitar.
And now the guitar is playing again :-)

The "grounding type" can be used to connect the hot terminal to ground
when nothing is plugged in. Pretty common on amp input sockets.

Hmm...I'd never thought about it like that. I'll keep that in mind next
time I have to swap one out - cheers!

Yeh if the double click doesn't bug you go for it. Plus you have the
advantage of two grounds if you use the ring connection.

Yup, no problems with the double stop. I'm not a fan of ripping the
cable out at any stage, especially during gigs...

Last time it was at one of my *solo* gigs, too :-(

Cheers,
Andy.
