OT: VT Holden Commodore in the garage - Grinner - 03:53 15-11-08
|

The ole ford farimont crapped out finally with a blown head gasket, using
water, mufflers falling off and discs needed machining. After a
disappointing afternoon of car yard con man banter I decided to take the
old road home and there sitting on the side of the road was my new vehicle.
It was love at first sight. So far I have gotten over 400kms out of this
tank with a 1/4 still left in it, drove him down to $3700 as there is 212K
kms on the clock (and he bought the old ford clapper for 200 - why on earth
I'll never fathom).
I'll just have to put off a few other purchases until I fully justify this
extrvagance. First time I've spent more than 3000 on a motor car.
Motoring has again bcome a joy and something I look forward to without
trepadation.

$3700 for a VT? Nice one!
I'm looking at grabbing something like this:
id=8167025&lid=8167025&pg=3&pp=3&d=0&nv=1&SG=1792090735&pt=1>
Either in twin-turbo or 4.0L V8 form. Not fussy either way :-)

Nothing particular wrong with the old Ford I6 (aside from the almost inevitable
head gasket issues after a number or years) - I6 is actually smoother than V6 by design.
Enjoy the new ride :-)
Cheers,
Andy.

well, it will be nice to drive a vehicle whose oil isn't black, doesn't
require water every second week, will do more than 400km's to 60 litres.
in four years the ford cost me:
leads, spark plugs and fit 300
steering column and fit 700
brakes 200
tyres 800
two shocks and fit 300
replacement diff and fit 700
batteries x 2 160
water container 80
water side tank 120
fan belts X 3 60
towing costs x 2 400
computer adjustment fix 120
fuel pump and fit 300
diagnosis of blown head gasket 45
yet, through all of that, the air con worked like a dream, and all the
gauges and dials never missed a beat.
they're like a woman that gives the best head you ever head yet still fucks
around on you.
very comfortable old beasts as well.
i'd love a 65 coupe covertible.

I had my VT for 7 years. It was a nice car, Came with Dual fuel from
the factory. It had 220 K's when I traded it. It had a few problems,
but all were minor.
The worst being the electric windows, there is a little nylon bushing
that wears out and the window drops. I had to have both front door
windows fixed.

An inline 6 is a much smooter running motor. A V6 is the hardest motor
to balance. My Chevy Trailblazer has a 250 CID 275 HP inline 6 that
you can barely if at all tell is running at an idle.
