Stomp Box Tuners - recommendations? - 6SickStrings@gmail.com - 08:28 14-11-08

So, which one should I get? What should I look for? I'm leaning toward
Boss for no particular reason at all, but always welcome informed
input.

thanks in advance

My $.02 is for a Boss TU-2. I've used mine for over 5 years now with no
problems at all. Dependable, compact and (even at almost 62 with bi-focals
and sunglasses) I can still see the LED's in it just fine.

Try as many as you can and pick the one that -you- like the best...

I agree.

I only have one gripe about the TU-2 and that is it's Battery saving
abilities are non-existent.

It does have a DC pass-through Jack for daisy chaining though, which is
kinda nice.

Tuners ... geez ...

I learned using a tuning reed .. then upgraded to
pitch fork .. or a open string tuning to a record ( black round things
with grooves .. referred to as "album" ).

I tune by ear now ... 99 % accurate ... anyone else ?

Yeah, my daughter...perfect pitch. I'm useless.

A couple years ago, I thought of buying her an electronic tuner for
her violin. My wife asked, "Why?" To tune her violin, I says. "She
tunes by ear, you know". So now we play stupid kid tricks: I'll play
random notes on the guitar and ask her to ID them. It's fun watching
her get steamed up when she misses one.

I generally use a tuning fork or tune to other's instruments, but if I
had to get one I'd get the Boss TU-2. I have the Behringer copy of that
pedal which works very well except, sometimes, live or in rehearsal
where electro-magnetic noise sometimes stops it from tracking the notes.
I haven't heard of the Boss pedal having this issue.

I can tune by ear but it is usually too busy in the places I'm playing
and the background noise makes it too difficult. When noodling I will
use my ear enough to get the guitar relative to itself.

The Boss TU-2 is a good choice. It can be set up for bass, guitar or
chromatic tuning. Has a streaming indicator mode that simulates a
strobe. Can be set to tune 1/2 or 1 full tone flat in either guitar
or bass tuning mode. They're solid as a rock and pretty much a de
facto standard. IMNSHO

You can do that in a practice session with the drummer whackin' away
and the bass player trying out his new 1600 watt amp and the singer
whining about whatever the damn problem is this week? That's pretty
cool, I'm a lot quicker with electronics.

Hell, ray Charles coulda seen the lights on a TU-2! I intend to buy
one but probably not before bass player forbids me from using hers.
