Killer song - dvaoa - 14:06 12-11-08

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owrwIvO_F_c

Dug out my Outlandos D'Amour CD last night...great bunch of songs (and
a couple of fillers). "Next To You" has it all: Frantic energy,
great start/stop dynamics, a killer bridge with a sweet slide solo,
good guitar tones, the works.

I saw a recent video from The Police's reunion tour, and they really
slowed it down...didn't like the tempo. Plau, way too much chorus on
the guitar.

Yes, I love that song. The band I was in back college (late 80's)
covered that one, as well as "So Lonely" (our singer sang it as Salami
LOL).

Thanks for the link/reminder.

Good stuff for sure. One of the few popular songs they did that kicked ass!

I always though it was a song that Maiden could do that would've fit
on their debut album...a punk/metal hybrid.

THey used to do that one *waaaaaay* fast live in the late 70s. Too
fast....Gordon couldn't keep up.
Everything they did up to the last album was great. Synchronicity was
too poppy/weird/slick for me. Stewart is the snare tone god.

This is neat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dgy9pRNDW26g

Omegaman is a great song but the drummer doesn't cop any Copeland
vibe.....he leads the beat so much on that one it seems like he rushes
a bit.

Heh...was Copeland messing with him?

If you like Steward Copeland, check out the band Dispatch, esp. their
farewell live album "All Points Bulletin". One of the best live
albums ever. Mix of rock/reggae/funk/world music, great drum tones,
and a very sweet, warm. not too distorted humbucking guitar tone.
They play the songs off that on their website;

Hmmm, I guess that shows how individual tastes are. The Police were
never among my favorites but I loved Synchronicity, it's the only one of
their albums I have. Go figure, I guess I like the weird factor.

You got that part right - nobody hits a snare better'n Stewart Copeland
for that register of snare.

Speaking as a drummer...its not about hitting hard so much as getting
rim and being consistant about it. Everyone tells me my (unmiked)
snare is louder than shit.....yet I'm not moving my arm at all. Its
all wrist and stick positioning. Yes......Copeland is god......listen
to the Oysterhead album if you need recent proof.
