bigsby dowel hole fix. for les pauls with long tail bigsby - Twang - 09:02 12-11-08

I installed a bigsby to my epiphone les paul studio..

the tail piece bushing holes don't match the B7 or B70 Bigsby.. and
that means you have to fill
the hole with a dowel, (see pics) and then when the Bigs is in, those
doweled holes show.
Not very nice.
I used a piece of doorsill aluminum I got at Ace hardware.. cost about
five bucks and is three feet long. only used an inch of it.
wear a mask and gloves, by the way.
looks much better than a hole!
Here's the bare hole followed by the fix.

By the way. that was my first attempt. and the piece is smaller now,
so it looks much better.
I just eleme glued that on to see how it looked.. then I reduced the
size so it matches the bridge pretty close
for size and shap.

there's another little bit of the hole on the treble side, too.. but I
have to do that one today.

Not a bad idea.

Does your camera have a MACRO function? Or a focus assist with a red or
IR light? You should be getting a much sharper image.

Nice fix, it looks like something I might have done. - It reminds me of on
old army saying, "If you can't hide it, paint it, if you can't paint it, put
a sign on it." Much better than a dodgy attempt at matching the guitar top.

Gibson used to use little round plastic fillers on ES335's & ES345's
ordered with Bigsbys. You can probably buy something similar at a
hardware store. Some Gibsons got rectangular name-plates, The Trini
Lopez standard model was one.

You should have used some aluminum round stock and put a slight taper
on it. Any of it left over makes some great knobs.

I was just shaky with the camera.. and indoors, didn't even open the
drapes. all my fault, Jim.

AJ yeah. there are several ways people have been getting around this..
I think, though, this looks better than most, and as good as any.

tony.. matching that finish would have been a bear for sure! I like
it. I'm starting a matching truss rod cover, today.

Keef! I used what I had man. You know the drill.*G* But I'll keep
that in mind for future builds.
