Another new old Japanese Squier Stratocaster - White Spirit - 12:03 06-11-08
|
|
This is my 1983 '70s 'reissue' that I got for £250, which is a very good
price:

The pickups are the original 'SQ-5' hot pickups. I haven't run them
through one of my amplifiers yet but they sounded incredible at
rehearsal yesterday.
It came with the aluminium flight case, but it doesn't fit the guitar
very well and is far too heavy to carry around so I'll sell the case and
get something more usable.
I put 10s on, gave the truss rod a tweak and lowered the bridge saddles
and it plays really well. The truss rod needs adjusting again, though -
it probably hasn't been touched in years judging by the faint tarnish on
the frets and I expect that it will take a day or two for the neck to
settle.

You want the neck to be straight. A truss rod puts relief in the
middle of the neck and not the middle of the scale
length where you would want it. You keep the strings from rattling by
putting some drop off into the frets from the
12th and on off the neck at the body end. Believe me or dont. I'm
tired of telling you guys.

Lately I've been breaking in that THD Hot Plate that the kids got me for
my birthday. Man, that thing sounds sweet with the Marshall JCM 800,
I'm finally able to crank up the thing at home so that the power tubes
get hit hard.
So far the Strat and the SG both sound really good with it. The Strat
sounded so good with the Marshall and the Hot Plate a couple of days ago
that I haven't been able to put it aside to try out my other guitars
with it!
