No, that is the authentic Ace Frehley "air guitar".
Very few people know this, but Ace is a hell of an air guitarist.

A friend of mine recommended I listen to some Kiss. I tried to listen to
some of the "re-mastered hits". It was awful. I couldn't believe people
actually like that stuff. Bad vocals and bad un-imaginative repetitious
guitar playing. Even my wife, who used to be a fan, says it's awful and
couldn't believe I'd even take the time to listen. But my friend got all
insulted when I told him what I thought of them.
I used to think of Kiss as the "Mc Donalds of Rock and Roll" but now I think
that's unfair to McDonalds. Now they are more like the "99 cent store of
Rock and Roll".

What album did you listen to? I like them, they're fun. In fact, I
went to their concert in October and my wife, who has been to a
gazillion concerts, said it was the best show she's ever seen.
I agree that after the first six or so albums they went in a direction
I didn't like, but in the beginning they were a hot band.

I think that's the key with Kiss. Don't take them to seriously and
you may enjoy them for what they are. And they do go all out with
their live shows, you can't deny that. I always associate them with
AC/DC in my mind. They're about the same skill level, but for some
reason AC/DC gets lauded while Kiss gets insulted. Kiss probably has
a bigger fan base though, so it all evens out.
Notice the pre-Eddie Van Halen tapping on Ace's guitar solo in that
video.

I agree with that. And AC DC was an awesome concert as well. They
have a formula that hasn't changed much over the years. It seems like
their songs haven't varied much from the mixture that made them a
success.

For sure. Ace isn't the best guitar player in the world or a shredder
by any accounts, but he plays some neat stuff.
