Ya know it's weird that I don't see a lot of Traynor amps round here
even though I'm fairly close to Canada. You can't throw a rock in a
music store without hitting a Peavey, but I can't remember the last
time I saw a vintage Traynor in a music shop around here. This one
doesn't sound half as good as the YCV40 but it does sound like a Twin
with a Nitrous tank hooked up to it. Cranked her full up (all controls
to 10) tonight for about 5 minutes and jumpin jesus is she loud! Got
real flabby though on the ass end...ahh pedals can be a good thing
sometimes. :-)

Thanks for the advice. The EL34 also says 6CA7 on it and the brand is
Amperex. Made in Japan.

I could be wrong but from what I am reading I have RCA branded
Mullards. BTW it is only 2 RCA's and then a Sylvania and the Amperex.
The 6BQ5 is also labeled RCA.

I thought those would more likely be Sylvania. Do they look like any
of these? http://www.cathedralstone.net/Pages/GE6CA7.htm

You can often tell the manufacturer by the way the tube number etching
is done. GE has that stencil look (see the first "National" tube in
the pics at the link. That's a GE). Sylvania used a more elongated,
elegant looking font. In the case of the 6CA7, the center hole on the
plate may also be a clue.

A very cool looking amp... thanks for posting, first one I've seen.
Are those Oxfords? Hot-dog baskets?

The GEs have the square hole in the middle of the plate stamps.
Sylvanias have 3 circular stamps.

You can slap 4 EL34's in the Traynor same tube as the 6CA7. I have an
old YB1A with two RCA 6CA7s in it. Some call them Canadian Marshalls
(not me) but they are a hell of an amp none the less.

Love to have that Peavey too. Just blew the Black Widow 12" in my MX
VTX series for no good reason. Just started distorting at low volume
and I wasn't even humpin on it. Got an Eminence 100 watt 12 going in
its place. Bought two for the Twin but didn't like how clean it
sounded.

75 bucks, I'm jealous.

Back in the 80's, there was a music store near me that had a whole
bunch of old Traynors in their back room. They couldn't *GIVE* them
away. I could've gotten one for almost nothing. But I had no idea what
they were. Damn...

Congrats on your score.

Like you said before it's too bad we aren't neighbors because I'm about to
put (4) 1971 Eminence Alnico V's up for sale. Gonna sell em cheap too
because one has a slight VC rub and I want to seel them as a lot of 4.

I pulled 2 Sylvania STR387's out of the Peavey that are obviously vintage
but not original (I don't think) I'm pretty sure Peavey used Peavey labeled
Sovteks back then (google be damned). Haven't gotten too deep into dating
either amps yet but I'm pretty sure the Traynor is a 73 and the Peavey is a
75.

The VT and VTX series amps are soooo underrated it's ridiculous. This one is
the third or fourth I've owned through the years and I've always gotten
great tone from them, The Heritage I had was my favorite. This one (Series
100 Classic VT) has the sweetest sounding phaser I've ever heard.

Those are original to the amp... there were no Sovtek tubes in
Peavey amps in '75. Peavey had PV branded Sylvania STR's.
