SRO on Saturday Night - dugjustdug - 9-:14 -0-09-20
|

I got asked on Tuesday to cover for the Guitar player (his Momma fell
sick out of area) of one of our area's better-known Rock bands for a
club gig Friday and Saturday. No rocket science about the set lists.
We took a 2 hour practice Wednesday night and hit the ground running
Friday night.
What a scream. We had 20-through-50-somethings in the crowd. Add to
it the fact that our weather is perfect right now, and, the club was 2
blocks from a Community Days event that shut down their Beer Garden
about the time we fired it up each night. The other Guitarist and I
have complimentary (v. competing) styles and we stayed out of each
other's way beautifully. A rock solid Drum and Bass, and, a Chick
singer who could really work the crowd. Fire Code said max. occupancy
of 90 - I estimated about double that in the place.
We did four hours each night, and, got called back up for an encore
the last night. The pay was so-so, but, who gave a rat's bunghole!
The energy of a live show with an engaged crowd is one of the better
rushes out there. Well, that and the comp'ed Shot and a Beer after
the show. :-)
It was an honor to get the ask, and a ton o' fun to play - even though
these old bones need a day or so to recover from all the
excitement. ;-)

I'll admit it was a bit of an ego stroke, but, I learned long ago not
to get too cocky for fear of a dose of Lennon's Instant Karma.

It's my drug of choice. I'm completely addicted to performing in front of
people. A packed house is even more awesome!
Good on ya man!!

I may not be any competition to Eric Clapton, but there sure as shit is
not much better than playing in front of a live audience that digs what
you are doing. Its rare to find another guitarist that you just click
with too. Well done and glad you enjoyed it.
