A stringless guitar - dave - 6-:30 -0-09-20

About three years ago I was browsing around a local guitar shop and I came
across a stringless guitar (not in the pornographic sense. . . it wasn't
that good of a guitar). Well it did have strings of a kind ,,,, they were a
few inches long and where you would normally strum the strings. Along the
neck there were no strings, just buttons. You would press the button where
you would normally press your finger on the fret board. I think you get the
picture.
Anyway, curiosity got the better of me and I had a go and to say the least
it was bloody awful. If I recall the idea was that you never had to tune
your guitar...I don't remember if this was it's main or only selling point
but it would have been a bad one. I am not great at tuning my guitar by ear
alone . I can get it there or there about. But I simply invested a few
pounds in a electronic tuner and my tuning problem was solved.
Anyhow, to the point of the post! Does anyone know if this thing ever took
off.... as anyone ever seen it....played it.....god forbid, liked it. I
don't remember the make or even the style it was other than it was black or
a very dark blue.... or am I just recalling a strange dream.

There were a few different guitar's in the past that had that type of lay
out. Most were just crazy flash in the pans. But the Ztar is still around.
Check this video. Man alive, the thing looks like it would have a nightmare
learning curve. How would you have anytime to practice?

I saw one of those. The guitarist had it hooked up to a games console
and as he played it, an animated character would headbang and cavort
around the on-screen stage.
It'll never take off.

Jay-sus! I watched that thing for five full minutes and by that time
the guy still hadn't stopped running his mouth long enough to show us
what that thing could actually *do*.
