New Track up on Soundclick (for all my fans) - Renli - 6-:20 -0-09-20

As I've become something of a celebrity here on alt.guitar recently,
I've decided to start recording my practice sessions, or at least
parts of them, for the general amusement of our patrons, the denizens.
This is just me on the SG straight into the H&K, ok I admit I used 2
mics and re-set pan and volume, but yeah this is my tone:
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7733548
Oh and to prove it's really me playing I threw in one of my classic
licks at 1:19. Any comments on getting a better mic position would be
great, this is at a 45 degree angle 1 inch from the celestions in my
TSL122 and roomed with some cheap-ass computer mic which i found does
a surprisingly good job (at least on vox). n-joy
notes to self:
- bends need a little work, one can only use feel as an excuse so many
times
- 3rd string noise issue on top string bend

Well, the good news is, you really don't need any new gear.

Better look that word "celebrity" up. I would take a leap of faith
that you're not 'thunk' of as a 'celeb' here by anyone.

Ahh, now who was it that said "I couldn't care less what the fuck you
are you little pisswit."
And yet you just can't shut the fuck up, can you, Meat Plow?
I think you yourself said it best; "Who cares what you fucking hear?
I sure the fuck don't."
You are a true vulgarian, aren't you?

I noticed it was lesson #5 you're workin' on. So that's sorta at the
"moving along nicely beginner level".... am I right? I know you didn't
ask for comments on the playing, but it's inextricably (sp) tied to
your sound. And you did offer some "notes to self".
I like that you're not using any pedals or other "overdrive" type
processing gear. Obviously the amp is quite capable of producing
plenty of that on it's own. But it does sound a little processed...
kinda almost like there's a hint of a fuzz box of some sort on the
guitar. Not unlike Robby Kreiger's sound. Me =3D techno idiot; but I
still think that bringing your gain down a little, and pushing the
power amp a little might eliminate that problem... which is the only
problem I hear.
Back to my original point... the inconsistent bends and somewhat
stuttered playing aren't anything that doesn't improve with practice.
So, even though I think it has a bit to do with the overall "sound",
doesn't seem to me that it's a big issue.
So... sound wise I like it mostly. Just a bit too fuzzy for me. But
cool riff....

Actually I'm a Bulgarian but you get another door prize for being so
close and such an all around good sport, soothsayer, and Usenet
tackle dummy.

Yeah thanks Lewis. You're dead on about the gain/power amp. I was
playing at low volumes - it is the late evening here and I don't want
to get too loud. When I do turn it up during the day it does sound
much more full.
Actually being in the room I am, the amp can easily get so loud I
become afraid. I've never turned master past 12 o'clock. The only time
I got close I was shocked at the power of the amp, as I think I
mentioned before I felt the amp reach out and touch me with the air (I
was right in front of it).
Anyways yes, it is quite a unique sound I am getting from the amp. I
turned my tone controls to zero, bridge to 3 and neck to 5 or so, and
hit the boost button. It doesn't quite sound the same without the
boost button. And it doesn't quite sound the same with the tone
controls up or the treble up on the eq. I wonder if the "processed"
sound is coming from my line 6 toneport.. sigh. If it's the toneport I
would just die.
Anyways yeah at the above settings it sustains very well. I don't
think I need a treble boost or overdrive for that anymore. I've
already ordered the okko though, and it seems like a very good pedal
so I'll give it a shot..
