My volume pots SUCK, period. The tone pots aren't much better. What
are the absolute top of the line replacements for these guys?

You wouldn't want absolute top of the line pots. It'd be overkill.
Gibson replacement pots can be ordered from several sources, including
allparts, tubesandmore and others. They used CTS in the past, I can't
say whether they still are or not. If so, you can probably get them
cheaper outside of the Gibson packaging, but you'll need to know value,
taper, thread body and shaft size.
If they work but are just "scratchy," they can usually be cleaned. I
use Caig DeoxIt D5.
If they don't clean up well (are still "scratchy" or get scratchy fast),
or you can't live knowing that they're the small cheap variety, replace
them. That assumes you can do your own soldering.
But if you have a valuable guitar like a vintage Gibson, NEVER replace
UNLESS they cannot be cleaned. They have date codes on them.
My preference is to also change tone caps (I prefer .010) and add bleed
caps on the volumes to maintain tone as you dial them down (I use .001).
I use polypropylene 630V caps. NOT necessary, but way cheaper than
vintage paper and oil types. Some guys say that the higher voltage
ratings sound the best. They aren't THAT much more money, so that's
what I use. I've had good luck with orange dipped ones from
justradios.com. I use Sprague 716P in tube amps, but the cheaper ones
in guitar tone circuits. And they aren't as bulky as the Sprague.

yeah sorry I should have been more specific. They don't make any noise
(it's a 2007 model)...they are just unusable. The volume pots have no
range whatsoever. The difference between 5 and 10 is minimal at best:
( Ditto with the tone pots. I need way more sensitivity. The guitar
itself sounds amazing, but I'm always playing it wide open (volume and
tone)....so I have no reluctance to replace the pots/caps completely!

From your description, it seems that you have linear taper pots, and
what you need is audio taper for what you want.

i was kinda yanking his chain.
some guys actually do like to be able to turn the guitar down.
personally, i leave it on 10 unless i'm doing the retarded volume swells,
but to each his own, listen to a led zep bootleg, the way Page controlled
his sound with his volume control is a good indication of some guys wanna
be able to do.
